Being away from family and friends makes staying connected difficult on the road. Isolation can be a major problem mentally and emotionally.

Truck Drivers

As a professional truck driver, it is incredibly important to stay alert and keep yourself feeling positive to do your best behind the wheel. Finding a way to connect on the road helps ensure you feel good about what you’re doing and how your family are back home.

At 123 Loadboard, we work with truck drivers and transport management teams across North America. We know what it takes for you to keep the hours you do, and how crucial your job is to people and businesses around the globe.

To help you stay in touch with your loved ones, we curated this list of options for staying connected on your drives.

Connect on the Road with Video Chat

FaceTime, Facebook Messenger Video Chat, and multiple other video messenger options have made it possible for truck drivers to connect on the road, no matter where they go. All you need is a WiFi or data connection to see your loved ones whenever you need them most.

For a driver, it is important to keep your eyes on the road, but that doesn’t mean you can’t watch your phone screen during rest stops.

Start a Private Facebook Group

Feeling lonely is a major issue for long trips, but truck drivers can avoid these feelings by finding ways to connect on the road. If you’re left wondering about staying connected hundreds of miles away, consider making a private Facebook group for you and your family or friends.

Add only the individuals you want in the group, and post whenever you can. Every time somebody uploads content onto that group, you’ll know it is meant for your eyes and it will bring a smile to your face. Include content like:

  • Private family moments
  • Concert and recital video clips
  • Photos from your travels
  • Voice messages for your loved ones
  • Daily updates from the road

Your family may not be able to be there with you, but they can watch your trip unfold and share their daily lives with you in your special group.

Snail Mail Memorable Postcards

One of the benefits of trucking is your ability to see amazing new places. It’s too bad you can’t always share those places with the people who are important to you, but you can send them a little piece of each location in the form of a postcard.

Postcards might seem a bit outdated, but that’s what makes them fun. Not only will you have a little moment connecting with your loved one while you write it, but you can imagine their look of surprise when they receive one from each location you stop in. These are also great keepsakes.

At 123 Loadboard, we make it our job to support truck drivers and trucking companies, and this includes supporting you in staying connected on the road.
